Recently, the world's first 10,000-ton silicon-carbon anode material project invested and constructed by Inner Mongolia Silicon Source New Energy Electronic Materials Technology Co., Ltd. is about to reach a critical construction node. It is reported that the project started in May last year. At present, core functional areas such as the R&D building, central control room, and main production workshop have been completed, and supporting facilities such as the nitrogen station, fire station, hazardous waste temporary storage area, and 110 kV substation have also been basically completed. The person in charge of the project stated that the completion rate of civil engineering has exceeded 90%, and the progress of equipment installation has exceeded 85%. It is planned to officially enter the trial production stage in the third quarter of 2025.

According to data, the project is the first landing and transformation result of the Tsinghua University Ordos Laboratory. It adopts Tsinghua University's fluidized bed coating technology to produce the third-generation new CVD silicon-carbon anode materials.

It is understood that the total investment of the project is nearly 3 billion yuan, covering an area of 400 mu. It is planned to be constructed in three phases with an annual output of 20,000 tons of silicon-carbon anode materials and supporting raw material production lines. Among them, the first phase of the project has an investment of 616 million yuan, with an annual output of 2,000 tons of silicon-carbon anode materials and related supporting facilities; the second phase is expected to start in 2026, with the annual production capacity expanding to 8,000 tons; the third phase will start before 2028, with a planned production capacity of 10,000 tons. After the project is fully put into production, the annual sales revenue is expected to reach 4 to 6 billion yuan.

Capacity expansion: leading enterprises accelerate layout
The construction of domestic silicon-carbon anode production capacity has entered an explosive period:

  • BTR: The existing silicon-based anode production capacity is 6,000 tons/year. The 40,000-ton base in Ningbo is under construction and will achieve mass supply in 2025.
  • Shanshan Co., Ltd.: The annual production capacity of 40,000 tons of silicon-carbon integration has been put into production and has entered the supply chain of CATL and BYD.
  • Putailai: The 12,000-ton/year silicon-based anode project has started trial production and is expected to be officially put into production in August 2025.
  • Carbon One New Energy: The 30,000-ton/year base in Wanjiang, Anhui adopts the world-leading CVD process, and the annual output value will exceed 10 billion yuan after reaching production capacity.
  • Guibao Science & Technology: The 1,000-ton/year pilot line is operating stably, and the construction of 3,000-ton/year production capacity is accelerating.

Silicon-carbon anode shows great potential in three major fields:

  • Power batteries: It can increase the range of new energy vehicles by more than 20%. Leading battery manufacturers such as CATL and BYD have started large-scale procurement.
  • Consumer electronics: In 2024, flagship models of mainstream mobile phone manufacturers have adopted silicon-carbon anode batteries, which are penetrating into mid-range models.
  • Next-generation batteries: Adapt to all-solid-state batteries and sodium-ion battery systems. Academician Ouyang Minggao of the Chinese Academy of Sciences pointed out that silicon-carbon anode is the best matching solution for solid-state batteries.

Market forecast: a 10-billion-level track is accelerating formation

  • The global silicon-carbon anode market size will exceed 12 billion yuan in 2025.
  • It is expected to exceed 50 billion yuan by 2030, and China's market share is expected to account for more than 70%.
