Thiourea is an organic sulfur compound, chemical formula CH4N2S, white and glossy crystal, bitter taste, density 1.41g/cm³, melting point 176 ~ 178℃. Used in the manufacture of drugs, dyes, resins, molding powder and other raw materials, also used as rubber vulcanization accelerator, metal mineral flotation agent and so on. It is formed by the action of hydrogen sulfide with lime slurry to form calcium hydrosulfide and then calcium cyanamide. It can also be prepared by melting ammonium thiocyanide, or by acting cyanamide with hydrogen sulfide.
On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily collated for reference, and thiourea was in the list of 3 types of carcinogens.

Operation and Storage
Operation precautions: closed operation, local exhaust. Operators must be specially trained and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter dust masks, chemical safety glasses, and rubber gloves. Keep away from fire and heat. No smoking in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Avoid producing dust. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids. When handling, light loading and unloading should be done to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with the corresponding variety and quantity of fire equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may have harmful residues.
Storage precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. The package is sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids and edible chemicals, and should not be mixed. Equipped with the corresponding variety and quantity of fire equipment. Storage areas should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.
Application
Thiourea is mainly used as a raw material for the synthesis of sulfathiazole, methionine and other drugs, and can also be used as a raw material for dyes and dyeing auxiliaries, resins and molding powders, and can also be used as a vulcanization accelerator for rubber, a flotation agent for metal minerals, a catalyst for the production of phthalic anhydride and fumaric acid, and as a metal rust inhibitor. In terms of photographic materials, it can be used as a developer and toner, and can also be used in the electroplating industry. Thiourea is also used in diazo photosensitive paper, synthetic resin coatings, anion exchange resins, germination promoters, fungicides and many other aspects. Thiourea is also used as a fertilizer. Used in the manufacture of drugs, dyes, resins, molding powder, rubber vulcanization accelerator, metal mineral flotation agents and other raw materials.
