Toluene diisocyanate, there are six isomers, namely toluene-2, 3-diisocyanate, toluene-2, 4-diisocyanate, toluene-2, 5-diisocyanate, toluene-2, 6-diisocyanate, toluene-3, 4-diisocyanate, toluene 3, 5-diisocyanate. Toluene 2, 4-diisocyanate and toluene 2, 6-diisocyanate are the most common isomers. Industrial toluene diisocyanates are usually a mixture of toluene-2, 4-diisocyanate and toluene-2, 6-diisocyanate.
On October 27, 2017, toluene diisocyanate was included in the 2B list of carcinogens in the preliminary compilation of the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization.
Colorless to light yellow transparent liquid, with a strong pungent odor. Density 1.22g /cm3. Freezing point 13.2 ℃. Boiling point 118-120℃(12.7 ×103Pa). Flash point 12l℃. Soluble in ether, acetone and other organic solvents. It reacts with water to form carbon dioxide. It can react with compounds containing reactive hydrogen and has high activity. In case of open fire, it can burn and release toxic gases due to high thermal decomposition. Toxic, strongly irritating to skin, eyes and mucous membranes. The maximum allowable concentration in air is 0.02ppm.
